Arabic & RTL Product Design

Arabic & RTL Product Design

We design Arabic and English interfaces together, so navigation, content, components and responsive layouts work properly in both directions.

A translated interface can still feel wrong.

Arabic changes the structure of an interface, not only the words. A simple flip can break hierarchy, directional icons, forms, tables and mixed-language content. We design the Arabic and English versions together so neither feels like an adaptation of the other.

Clear Rules for Each Direction

We specify which elements mirror, which stay fixed, and how navigation, progress, icons and gestures behave in Arabic and English. Developers get one set of rules instead of making those calls screen by screen.

Mixed-Language Content That Stays Readable

Real products mix Arabic with names, email addresses, URLs, numbers, dates and technical data. We design those combinations in the actual screens so the hierarchy stays clear.

We extend the same component system across RTL and LTR, with documented variants, exceptions and responsive states. Your team can add new screens without the Arabic and English versions drifting apart.

1. Review

We review the priority journeys, current screens, language requirements, research, design system and technical constraints. Then we identify what needs to change for RTL and what can remain as it is.

2. Map

We map reading order, navigation, locale switching, forms and mixed-direction content in both languages. We also document the components and icons that should not mirror.

3. Design

We design the Arabic and English versions side by side. Responsive screens and prototypes make it easier to review the layout, interactions and real content before development.

4. Validate

We check responsive states, mixed-language edge cases and the agreed RTL/LTR rules before handoff. Arabic-language usability testing can be added when the audience, market and recruitment plan are approved.

Our Cases

See how we designed Amplifidor, a multi-role SaaS product based in Riyadh.

Amplifidor

Amplifidor is a Riyadh-based influencer marketing SaaS for brands, influencers, agents and agencies. Plexable designed its role-specific workflows, analytics, wallet experience and design system. The case shows our experience with a complex Saudi product. Arabic and RTL delivery is a separate requirement and would be scoped for your product. See the DadCam case study for another role-based product design example.

  • Consistent
    Product Logic

    Keep product logic consistent

Both languages share the same flows and states, with separate layout rules where direction changes the interface.

  • Build-Ready
    RTL Rules

Give developers rules they can build from

Annotated screens, component variants and documented exceptions show how each direction should behave.

  • Real
    Bilingual Data

    Plan for real mixed-language data

We specify how names, IDs, emails, phone numbers, dates, currencies and technical strings should appear before development begins.

  • Maintainable
    Design System

    Keep the design system maintainable

Components, spacing, icons and responsive behavior follow defined RTL/LTR rules, so new screens remain consistent.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Translation changes the words. RTL design also affects reading order, navigation, directional icons, components and mixed-language content. Some elements mirror; others stay fixed.

  • Yes. We review the current interface and extend the existing components where they work. The scope depends on the consistency of the current system and the number of journeys, states and responsive layouts involved.

  • Navigation, breadcrumbs, progress indicators, carousels, forms, tables, charts, media controls, gestures and directional icons all need clear RTL rules. So do screens that mix Arabic with English, numbers or technical data.
